Do you know the benefits of beets? Since our blog includes several recipes with red beet, we are going to dedicate our monthly post on nutrition and health to this amazingly versatile food.

There are two types of beets (both very high in sugars):

  • A white variety, usually used for the production of sugar and to feed animals.
  • A stunning red variety, which is the one we will focus on as it is used in several recipes of the blog, some as surprising as the textured beet with sardines, sent by Rosalía.

Benefits of red beet

The red beet has antioxidant properties (flavonoids that give it that red color and are essential to prevent degenerative diseases such as hypertension, high cholesterol…) and a high fiber content (helps regulate constipation, cholesterol and triglycerides, besides being satiating…).

In addition, I would like to stress that red beet is high in iron and Vitamin C, which makes it a perfect addition to a treatment for iron-deficiency anemia (I usually recommend a beet juice with spinach and kiwi or oranges as a treatment for anemia).

We encourage you to try it and experiment with it, always bearing in mind that these tips and recipes must be part of a healthy lifestyle including other important habits such as regular exercise, healthy diet, good sleep …

Finally, we would like to remind you that tomorrow, Friday, March 22, 12:00, we will have our first talk on nutrition and health. See you on Instagram Live @serratsconservas!
