Margarita was one of the lucky ones (well, we were the lucky ones, having the chance to meet her and discover her blog Acibechería) who won a double invitation for the Salón de Gourmets and had the chance to try our new spicy sardines. She tells us that she loved them, and while she was at it, she sent us the recipe of the snack she prepared with them (well, with the ones left over after enjoying the rest):
“When the ingredients stand on their own, they don’t need much help at all, and that’s exactly the case with these new spicy sardines by Conservas Serrats, which are absolutely delicious.
Esperanza was right when she told me about them at the salón de gourmets. She warned me about what I would find inside that small tin and boy was she right.
But there were only 3 left in the tin and I wanted a Sunday snack. The wine was already in the fridge. It was the perfect moment for the sardines… I had to find a suitable accompaniment and it worked out perfectly.
Easy, simple, but tasty, very tasty”.
Ingredients
- Spicy sardines
- Strawberries – 4
- Tomato – 1
- Cream cheese
- Spring onion – 1/2
- Mild vinegar – 1 spoonful
- Macadamia nuts – 2
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Bread
Preparation
- Brush some slices from a leftover loaf of bread with extra virgin olive oil.
- Toast them in a frying pan until they turn the golden colour you prefer (while you toast them, squash them with a spatula).
- Spread a very thin layer of cream cheese on each slice of toast.
- Add a very thin slice of tomato and another thin slice of strawberry.
- Top it off with the “party queen”, the spicy sardine.
- Pour on a vinaigrette made with spring onion, a couple of strawberries and the oil from the tin of sardines.
- Sprinkle some grated macadamia nuts on top.
- Ready to enjoy! So easy it doesn’t require more than the final photo – it seems to say ‘eat me!’.
A luxury snack, thanks Margarita!
