Balanced diet and fish

Fish is a key ingredient in a balanced diet, and it is advisable to consume between two and four servings of fish a week… But are you really aware of all the benefits of fish? I believe if we were, we would not miss even one of the recommended servings. ;-)) Let me tell you about some of these benefits:

  • It is a major source of proteins of high biological value. This means that it provides all the “essential amino acids”, those that are key for the formation and maintenance of body tissues, neurotransmitter formation and many other body functions.
  • Source of vitamins, such as A, B and D, of vital importance to prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases and to improve the mood, among other functions.
  • Source of minerals, such as Iodine, which helps protect the body from some diseases, especially degenerative diseases.
  • Healthy fats intake (the “unsaturated”), including the famous Omega 3, especially abundant in blue fish, which help reduce cholesterol and protect heart and blood health.
  • Finally, it contains very few calories. Obviously, the calorie intake depends on the cooking method and will vary whether you eat fried, baked, grilled or steamed fish. The same applies to sides: to avoid an extra calorie intake, I recommend you to eat it with vegetables.

A basic food for the nutrient intake for all ages, from children to adults… Let’s have fish today!
