Is it possible to control our diet and eat healthy at Christmas time? The title “Christmas!!!! Let’s eat, the world is coming to an end!” might sound a little exaggerated, but it looks that the holidays are coming (even from early December), leaving the door open for Christmas sweets (our biggest “sin”), fried food, business dinners where you eat and drink as if there were no tomorrow… Anyway, as I often hear, “This awful season to control our diet!”
As far as I’m concerned, I notice it in my practice… Even in early December, Christmas is already around the corner… And there we go, we forget about our good eating habits until January (at least).
And yes, we can control our diet even at Christmas time, eating as naturally as possible, with a bit of preparation. Not so much to maintain our weight (which is also important to avoid gaining five kilos), but especially because our body will be grateful.
Christmas eating tips to control your diet
What advices can I give you for those days of crazy eating?
On the one hand, the winter season offers an endless variety of delicious, tasty vegetables… In my opinion, the best season of the year as far as vegetables are concerned! Thistle, artichokes, borage, Romanesco broccoli, cauliflower, chicory, red cabbage, cabbage, pumpkin, escarole… You can always serve a vegetable starter: thistle with almonds, sautéed artichokes, endive salad with pomegranate and tuna belly, cream pumpkin with sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds with prawns…
You will find a lot of inspiration in La cocina de Serrats’ recipes, for example:
- Prawns salad with orange vinaigrette
- Avocado with anchovies, piquillo peppers and black garlic
- Stuffed eggplants…
- Stuffed zucchini…
We can also prepare a delicious fish or vegetable soup with some cereal.
On the other hand, the main course can be a yummy roast, for example chicken, poularde, turkey, or a fine fish, served with vegetables, chestnuts, sweet potatoes and roasted fruits (apples, plums, raisins…).
As for dessert, a mouth-watering Christmas compote, grilled fruit kebabs with dark chocolate and of course, some “turron”, “polvorones” and other Christmas sweets (in moderation)…
As for alcohol, better to avoid it, but if you do drink, do it in moderation.
Remember to work out on a regular basis. A nice winter walk is super comforting and healthy!
And above all, enjoy the holidays, have a good mindset, try to keep well…
Happy Holidays! To a very healthy year!
